Marvel Heroes Omega has officially shut down
Carving a slice of the online free-to-play market isn’t easy. You would think, however, that a tie-in with the popular superhero franchise would be a good start. Particularly if you have the backing of Disney.
Well, unfortunately, depending on who you speak with, there is a growing consensus that Disney doesn’t love Marvel anymore. We reported only a couple weeks ago that Disney had decided to terminate its contract with the Marvel Heroes developer, Gazillion Entertainment.
This, by proxy, put the death blow on the game with an initial closure date scheduled for the 31st of December.
Unconfirmed reports emerged in recent days, however, that Disney was anxious to move the matter ahead. There were even reports that many of the Gazillion Entertainment staff were laid off the day before Thanksgiving. How seasonal of them.
Well, the last person has now been told to lock the doors and switch off the servers as Marvel Heroes Omega is now officially dead.
Earlier than expected!
While the writing was on the wall for the closure, the fact that Disney advanced it so much is surprising. As above, the closure was not expected until the 31st of December. This would have at least allowed the game and its community one last hurrah. In a report via DSOGaming, however, the plug was officially pulled last night.
