Descrizione	PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe Mamma ho perso il kayak Alzi la mano chi, nei momenti morti in ufficio o magari a scuola durante l'ora di informatica, non ha alternato al buon vecchio solitario di Windows uno sfizioso giochino “tower defense”. Per quei pochi -spero per voi- che son rimasti con lo sguardo smarrito e le mani lungo i fianchi, il tower defense non è altro che un sotto genere strategico, molto diffuso tra le produzioni freeware rintracciabili in giro per il web. Scopo di gioco difendere un qualcosa di statico da un qualcos'altro di mobile, tramite un sistema, più o meno complesso, di torrette da disseminare strategicamente lungo il tragitto. Ora, togliete “qualcosa” ed al suo posto inserite un pacioccoso branco di animaletti non ben identificati. Togliete pure “qualcos'altro” sostituendolo con orde di mostriciattoli assortiti, ed avrete una nemmeno troppo vaga idea di in che cosa consista PixelJunk Monster Deluxe. Come dite, vi sta andando in cancrena il braccio? bene, proviamo ad effettuare un'ulteriore scrematura. Venga alla lavagna chi ha messo le mani sull'omonimo titolo per PS3, e la relativa espansione, con il quale l'episodio in questione condivide praticamente tutto, fatta eccezione per un'inedita isola e qualche nuovo oggetto di gioco, implementati ad hoc per la trasposizione portatile. Ecco, a questo punto la schiera di lettori rimasti al loro banco si starà chiedendo, non a torto, il perché dovrebbe pagare per qualcosa che può tranquillamente reperire online in modo totalmente gratuito, beneficiando oltretutto di un'abbondante rosa di scelta. Beh, la risposta è tutt'altro che semplice, e si rifà sia alla particolarità del titolo, sia all'affiatato connubio che PixelJunk Monster Deluxe instaurerà con la vostra fida PSP. Ma andiamo con ordine: tornate tutti a sedere, c'è da difendere il branco. [Cut] Commento Semplicemente il miglior tower defense al quale avrete la fortuna di giocare. PixelJunk Monster Deluxe porta con se tutti i pregi del fratello maggiore per PS3, aggiungendo l'inestimabile vantaggio della portabilità propria di PSP. Portabilità che, finalmente, non rappresenterà più una limitazione per gli amanti del gioco cooperativo. A questo giro infatti, per mezzo della connettività Wi-Fi, i giocatori potranno godere di un supporto multiplayer completo quanto quello delle produzioni per console casalinghe. When the original came out on the PlayStation 3 -- followed by the island-adding expansion pack -- I dug it, but I could never see myself sitting down in front of my TV hour after hour to play the simple and entertaining but at times frustrating tower defense game in an attempt to perfect every level. With the PSP and its ability to be with me on the train, in the bathroom, or on a bus, I totally can see myself not resting until I've nailed every stage and earned every rainbow. If you somehow missed PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk Monsters Encore, you should read Ryan Clements' informative first and second review. Done? Good because the easiest way to explain PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe is that it's all the stuff from those first two games bundled with a bunch of brand new awesomeness. In the PixelJunk universe, you're a little Tikiman looking to protect his tribe (a bunch of potato-looking babies wrapped in blankets who are huddled in front of a hut) from wave after wave of invading beasts. There are giant spiders, rock creatures, and weird flying things. Saving the day boils down to walking up to the trees in the area and spending gold on defense towers that take the place of the foliage. These devices have radii you can see so that when an enemy enters the circle, the tower can shoot cannonballs, ice, arrows, or whatever its function is in an attempt to blast the baddies off the map. If you fail at killing the attackers, they'll make it to the hut and kill one of your dudes for every one of the bad guys that makes it there. Lose all your dudes, and you fail the mission. [Cut] If you're a PixelJunk vet, everything I just listed is old hat to you, and that's because Q Games really didn't mess with anything that made PixelJunk Monsters great, and gameplay is and always has been great in Monsters. Although the concept is so simple, the game quickly becomes a challenging piece of work as you try to 'rainbow' levels by not losing any babies. It's pretty crazy to sit there and freak out because a lone spider was able to get around your four arrow towers and three cannon towers and pick off one of the potato people. It's that drive to get that tiny rainbow over the level in question on the world map that makes Deluxe so appealing. PixelJunk Monsters is a second game in the PixelJunk series developed by Q-Games for the PlayStation 3. It was released worldwide on the PlayStation Store on January 24, 2008. The game was released for the PlayStation Portable under the title PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe.

PixelJunk Monsters Encore, an expansion pack for the game, was released April 24, 2008 in Japan; May 8, 2008 in North America; and May 15, 2008 in Europe.

In May 2016, PixelJunk Monsters was released by Double Eleven for Wii U.

Gameplay

Gameplay in PixelJunk Monsters has similarities to various tower defense titles. The objective is to build defense towers along the enemies' path to keep them from reaching a hut, or base. Several small creatures dwell at the base. For each enemy that survives the defense towers and reaches the hut, one creature is killed. If all creatures are wiped out, the level is failed.

Towers have distinct attributes, such as rapid fire, long range, air-focused, etc. Destroyed enemies usually drop coins and occasionally give gems, which then can be used to upgrade and research new towers.

There are a total of 21 different levels (36 with the expansion pack) at 3 stages of difficulty. There are also 3 special stages that unlock unique abilities for the player character. Several 'Trophy Challenges' were also added to the game after a patch.

Unlike more traditional tower defense games, the player controls a character around the screen, collecting coins and building towers. This replaces the standard cursor controls. A second player can also join in and assist in building towers.
